On Sunday 19 May, Hellenes everywhere commemorate the memory of the victims of the Genocide of the Hellenes of Pontos, part of the Genocide of the Hellenes under Turkish rule.
On Sundy 19 May, this year’s commemorative events begin with Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Transfiguration Earlwood and Saint Stephanos Hurlstone Park. Following the services, commemorative events will be held at the respective premises of Pontoxeniteas Brotherhood (Earlwood) and the Panayia Soumela (Hurlstone Park).
In the evening, the Hellenic Art Theatre (Addison Road Marrickville) is presenting a special performance of Eyripides’ tragedy Trojan Women. It is a play with special significance for the Hellenes of Pontos, Asia Minor and Thrace. For reservations, please contact Maria on 0411 318 851.
On Wednesday 22 May, the main commemoration of the New South Wales Pontian associations at the St George Auditorium (Montgomery Street, Kogarah) from 7pm.
On Sunday 26 May, Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady (Cleveland Street, Redfern). Following the service, wreath-laying ceremony at the Anzac Memorial Hyde Park. To reserve your seat on the bus, please contact Maria 0411 318 851 by Sunday 19 May.
The memory of the victims of the Genocide of the Hellenes will be ‘ETERNAL’ only if Hellenism holds their memory unextinguished, in mind and in heart.
